Workshops in the MTL Café
In addition to the regular office space, MTL also has a meeting and event space known as the Café. Meetings can be held and work can be done in the unpartitioned open space. When discussions get bogged down over technical issues, members of nearby teams will sometimes jump in to lend a hand.
Since the roomy space will seat around 70, people from outside the company are sometimes invited to join technical workshops held in the evening in a seminar format.
Dual displays available
The MTL office uses a free-address system so members all work on notebook PCs. External LCD displays are provided for when the work can be more easily done using a large monitor.
They are also convenient for doing pair programming by cross-connecting the cables.
Many technical books available
For performing development work and planning new services, it is crucial to collect information from a variety of fields. However, technical books sometimes exceed 5,000 yen each in cost so they can be difficult for individuals to buy.
At MTL, we have a system that makes it possible to purchase technical books and magazines needed for development work and service research. We want people to aggressively take on the challenge of new technologies.
Development camps outside Tokyo
MTL activities do not take place only inside the office. Sometimes interested members are sent to the seaside or a hot springs to stay in a hotel for a "development camp" or technical training workshop.
Far from their everyday environment, members can intensely concentrate on planning and development over a solid block of time and also come up with new ideas while out in nature. This provides opportunities for advancement to the next step for both the individual members and MTL.
